An Instagram model escaped jail after pleading guilty to smuggling nearly £17,000 worth of python-skin fashion accessories into the UK from Indonesia.
Swimwear model Stephanie Scolaro, 26, sold snakeskin baseball caps and bags via her website ‘SS Python’ as well as her Instagram account, which has more than 90,000 followers. She also sold some of the £450 baseball caps with Boudi Fashion boutique on South Molton Street, Mayfair
The swimwear model and daughter of an Italian mining tycoon was subject to an investigating previously in 2017 after a package of python skin hats and bags were intercepted at Leipzig airport in Germany.
Other parcels were also stopped at Heathrow Airport.
Judge Michael Gledhill spared Stephanie Scolaro a prison sentence after she wept at the court house and agreed to complete 160 hours of community service, instead.
“This is a young woman who, for all sorts of different reasons, is utterly self-centred,” – Judge Michael Gledhill
Officers seized 35 hats during the investigation as well as bags which were advertised for sale at £2,800 each.
Scolaro, pleaded guilty to two counts of importing goods with the intent to evade a prohibition, two counts of keeping for sale a species acquired unlawfully and one count of selling a species unlawfully imported.
She will face confiscation proceedings over her snakeskin product profits.
