British fish and chip shops caught serving endangered sharks

British fish and chip shops have been serving up endangered sharks.

A study from the Exeter university uncovered that fish and chip shops all over UK have been serving endangered shark alongside their usually offering of cod, haddock or plaice.

Different varieties of shark have been discovered on offer including hammerheads and spiny dogfish.

Most of the fish were sold under different names such as huss, rock salmon and rock eel and chip shops.


Samples from fish mongers, chip shops and Asian food wholesalers were examined to determine its exact species.





A majority of the goods were seized by the UK Border Force that were on their way to Asia.

Other rare species of fish that were offered by the mongers included starry smooth-hounds, nurse hounds and blue sharks.
